The National Identity Management Commission on Monday resumed the National Identity Number registration exercise in the commission’s offices across the country.
The workers however commenced the countdown of the 21-day ultimatum which they gave the Federal Government concerning the welfare and safety issues for the employees of the commission.
The President, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, NIMC Unit, Asekokhai Lucky stated in Abuja that workers of the commission suspended their strike last week to give room for negotiations with the Federal Government.

“Registration for NIN has recommenced because we have resumed work in our offices nationwide, but that does not mean that the issues of concern have been settled,” he said.
Lucky added, that they are commencing negotiations with the government through the communications minister with the hope that the issues will be resolved.
“Also, we have started counting down on the 21-day ultimatum we issued the management of the commission and if nothing tangible is agreed on before the expiration of the ultimatum, then the strike will resume.” He affirmed.
It would be recalled that workers of the commission had downed tools on Wednesday and Thursday last week over fears of being infected by COVID-19 while carrying out the NIN registration exercise. The strike was however suspended after the intervention of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as the union and government agreed to meet on Tuesday to address the concerns raised by the workers.
