During a special operation on Friday, December 22, 2023, the Lagos State Government released trucks that had been impounded by the Lagos Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). Because the trucks obstructed traffic on the Cele-Apapa/Tincan axis, they were seized. This occurred just a day after the state’s enforcement team seized over 60 illegally parked containerized trucks along the inward port access road of Cele, Mile-2, and Apapa Oshodi Expressway during a midnight operation.
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, issued an order releasing the impounded trucks after a positive meeting with truck associations, according to a statement signed by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation.

He did, however, issue a warning, saying that should the need arise, the State government would still use its power to compel compliance and tow away violating trucks.
According to the Commissioner, the action is in line with the larger goal of creating a functional transportation system that benefits both businesses and citizens, and it further demonstrates the government’s dedication to working with stakeholders to manage traffic in the state.
