In a landmark development, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the transfer and upgrade of Epe General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services in Lagos, particularly in the Epe area.

The upgrade of Epe General Hospital is not just about improving healthcare services but also about boosting the capacity for medical education and alternative medicine research. As part of the new Federal Medical Centre, two key institutions will be established: a School of Nursing and the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (FEDCAM). This addition will ensure that the region becomes a hub for training healthcare professionals and advancing complementary medicine, an area gaining recognition globally.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, during the MoU signing ceremony, expressed his commitment to improving the healthcare landscape of Lagos, stating that the upgrade will bring world-class medical services closer to the residents of Epe and its surrounding communities. Dr. Tunji Alausa emphasized the federal government’s dedication to supporting states in improving healthcare delivery and promoting innovations like complementary and alternative medicine.

This transfer is expected to transform the Epe healthcare system and provide a boost to medical education in the region. The integration of modern healthcare facilities and a focus on complementary medicine will not only serve the local population but also attract patients and students from across the country.

The move aligns with Nigeria’s broader vision of upgrading healthcare facilities to meet international standards and addressing the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals through quality training and education.

The signing of this MoU signifies a new chapter for Epe and underscores the collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government in their mission to improve healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
