Starlink, the satellite internet service provider under SpaceX, has announced a significant price increase for its monthly service plans in Nigeria, citing excessive inflation as the reason for the adjustment.
In a statement sent to existing customers, The new pricing, will be effective immediately for new customers, and applicable to existing customers from October 31, 2024.
The Standard (Residential) plan which goes for ₦38,000 has been increase to ₦75,000 per month
The Mobile – Regional (Roam Unlimited) which cost ₦49,000 before now is now ₦167,000 per month
The Mobile – Global (Global Roam) now cost ₦717,000 per month
Starlink informed its current subscribers via email that the price hike will take effect in one month, giving them the option to cancel their subscription if they do not wish to continue at the new rates.
The price increase comes amid rising inflation rates that have affected businesses and consumers alike in Nigeria. Starlink cited the economic climate as the primary driver for adjusting the cost of its service, which provides internet access through a network of low-earth orbit satellites.
